Official: Inter Tertiary Excellence Awards(ITEA) open Nominations & announce Media Tour

Showbiz Network Ghana Limited, the organizers of Inter Tertiary Excellence Awards (ITEA) have held a press launch for the maiden edition of the tertiary honors.The launch happened at the premises of SBN’s Sakumono Office.

According to Mr. Afunya Kofi Daniel, the Events Manager of SBN who was speaking at the event, the launch also marks the beginning of nominations. He said there are forty categories in all including 33 main awards and 7 honorary awards. The Events Manager who also seemed very enthused about the award and was optimistic about its success mentioned that the award whose first edition is built on the theme: Milestone Celebration would become the first ever award scheme in Ghana to truly bring all tertiary institutions under one great umbrella for the celebration of excellence in diverse aspects of student’s endeavor. He also ceased the opportunity to call on cooperate bodies, the media, individuals and groups to support this initiative.

As part of plans to increase nationwide knowledge of the event, there would be a media tour to major radio stations across the nation. According to him, some of the regional coordinators have already visited Radio G.I.J 97.7mhz, Radio Windy Bay 98.3mhz, Rich Fm 104.7 mhz, NTV, pending several others to be visited by the coordinators and the events team. Nominations however begin from Monday, 25th June, 2018 15:00 GMT through to 31st July, 2018.

INTER-TERTIARY EXCELLENCE AWARDS (ITEA)

 

Showbiz Network Ghana (SBN) presents INTER-TERTIARY EXCELLENCE AWARDS (ITEA) under the Theme: MILESTONE CELEBRATION.

The goal of the ITEA is to acknowledge the achievements of exceptional Tertiary Students in the country making significant impact in Ghana. ITEA also seeks to promote positive youth development by inspiring young people to achieve greater heights and to know that good achievements are recognized and appreciated.

ITEA has been divided into three belts to capture all the ten(10) regions of Ghana. The Middle Belt will comprises of Central ,Ashanti and Western Regions. The Northern Belt comprises Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions The Southern Belt comprises of Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Regions.

Laureates will receive prizes comprising of a winning plaque,a hamper of corporate products and sponsorship packages to help pursue their efforts.

The Inter Tertiary Excellence Awards (ITEA) is accessible to all students in Tertiary Institutions in Ghana duly recognized by National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) under the following blocs:

  • The Universities Bloc, University Students Association of Ghana (USAG).
  • The Professionals Bloc, Ghana Union of Professional Studies (GUPS).
  • The Teacher Training Colleges, Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana(TTAG).
  • The Health Training Colleges, National Health Students Association of Ghana (NHSAG)
  • Graduate Studies, Graduate Students Association of Ghana(GRASAG).

 

ITEA CATEGORIES ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA OF SELECTION

 

All categories will necessarily have to provide records of accomplishment across a range of activities/areas are expected.

ITEA Selection Committee (Academy of Professionals)is interested in receiving nominations that focus on the Student’s individual achievements in the areas of Academics, Social action, Arts and Entertainment .Candidates should be considered for outstanding contributions to their school, community and/or Ghana for a project that the individual initiated, organized or contributed to significantly.

The Executive Committee will address to relevant achievements with statistical approaches and judge done overall accomplishment, including: Academic excellence, Creative activities, Campus service/involvement in extracurricular activities, Performance at Community service, incorporating an experiential learning experience in their college experience and evidence.

Criteria for nomination

The ITEA for Overall Best Students shall recognize students for the integration of academics. The student will have enriched the University community through a record of Accomplishment and leadership in such are  as student life, and community life excellence and other aspects of student lives which may include leadership, community service, sports, arts and entertainment all of which reflect the University’s purposes and priorities. The schools will be contacted for the CGPA of the overall student for each class and afterwards the CGPA’s converted on fair grounds under the Academic Category. The appropriate authorities will be contacted to help with the conversion.

Eligibility

Nominees for this category must be undergraduate students

Nominees must have outstanding performance and should be able to prove it with     

their transcripts if the need arises.

 

Best Nursing Student of the Year

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for the category shall recognize student nurses who have proven to have good grip of the technically know-how passed on to them from their institutions. Students who meet the standard  requirements of their field for the academic year are the centre of focus.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be students of a recognized nursing training institution.

Nominees must have a good GPA.

 

Best Teacher Trainee of the Year

Category for nomination

ITEA for the category shall recognize teacher trainees who have proven to have good grip of           the technically know-how passed on to them from their institutions. Students who meet the standard requirement of their field for the academic year shall be honoured.

Eligibility     

Nominees must be students of a recognized nursing training institution.

Nominees must have a good GPA.

 

 

  • SOCIALCATEGORY

 

 

ITEA for these categories shall recognize students who have made impact in their social circles in the area of innovations, leadership, fashion ,lifestyle ,entrepreneurship ,religion and social media. These categories include the following:

   

Student Activist of the Year     

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for this category shall honor students who have played tremendous roles in pushing the agenda of student rights and gender related issues at the tertiary level and the entire influence in the development of our democracy

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate students.

 

Student Entrepreneur of the Year    

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for this category shall recognize students for creative, competitive and determined

entrepreneurial skills. This is to recognize creative ideas which have been transformed

into  working businesses.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate students.

Nominees should have a working enterprise or a business idea.

 

Innovator of the Year

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for this category shall reward students in the area of innovations (creative ideas

translated into service that creates value).It is to honor students who have postulated

creativity ideas which have improved upon products and services offered in tertiary

institutions.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate student.

Nominees must have a working proof of an achievement in this regard.

 

Outstanding Student Leader of the Year

 

Criteria for category

ITEA for this category shall recognize students for exceptional leadership. This cuts

across the fields of academia and student politics. It includes Departmental heads, SRC

leaders and parliamentarians.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate students.

Nominees must have a portfolio as a student leader in any capacity and track records.

 

Most Popular Student of the Year    

Criteria for Category

ITEA for this category shall honor students being hyperactive and well known to student

populace impacting positively in extracurricular activities.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate students.

 

Male Model of the Year   

Criteria for Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize male student Models with fashionable styles and

lifestyle. Being fashionable is encapsulated in both style and lifestyle. A male Model

should have a unique style and be trendy.

Nominees must have a unique style and trendy

 

Female Model of the Year

Criteria for Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize female student Models with fashionable styles and

lifestyle. Being fashionable is encapsulated in both style and lifestyle. A female

Beauty Queen of the Year   

Criteria for the Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize pageant participants from the various tertiary

institutions as well as ladies considered to be of exceptional beauty and intelligence.

Nominees must have participated in a beauty pageantry in any tertiary institution.

 

Best Hall of Residence of the Year

Criteria for the Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize halls of Residence with good environment for exceptional academic exploits and social networks. This hall should be a place that harness potentials in students .It should be a well-known hall with laurels in sports and academic competitions as well as socially active.

Eligibility

Halls must be a recognized JCR.

 

Blogger of the Year

Criteria for the Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize students in the area of blogging. To be an

exceptional blogger one must have flair, vast knowledge of issues and events with an open

mind approach. This makes one’s contents rich, enjoyable, and the first blog everyone

wants to read. Students with outstanding blogs and well-known for blogging on key issues

that have made significant impact on ‘campus life’ shall be honoured.

   

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate student.

Nominees should be active blogger on an active website

 

Student Author of the Year

Criteria for the Category

ITEA for this category recognizes students who have excelled in capturing the hearts and

minds of many by their captivating, intriguing and thought-provoking writing skills. Books

capture an idea or a story. Whiles some tell a tale, others take us through a world of

unceasing adventure. This category would honour such who have been able carry others

along in their adventure and colourful imaginations by their writing.

Eligibility

Nominees must be undergraduate students.

Nominees must have a publication to their credit.

 

Student Christian Council of the Year  

Criteria for the Category

ITEA for this category shall recognize student council leaders of the Christian faith. This is

to honor Christian denomination groups on the various campuses for exceptional

leadership in ensuring growth, influencing members to attain their highest potentials, well

established membership and nurturing tolerance among members towards others of

different faith.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be registered and recognized groups on their campuses.

 

  • ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORIES

ITEA for these categories involves recognizing individuals from Tertiary institutions who

have been involved in producing, promoting and participating in live performances, events,

radio, creative works such as Graphic designing and fashion. This category is reserved to

award students for amusing, entertaining and bringing more fun to the doorstep of students

in the most amazing ways. These categories includes:

 

 Outstanding Event Hub of the Year

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for this category will recognize creative and outstanding event organizing groups

or hub on the various campuses across the nation. This category will center on

patronage or level of participation of their events and the number of events organized.

 

Eligibility

Members of the Nominated group should be undergraduate students

 

Student Artiste of the Year   

Criteria for nomination

ITEA for this category is to recognize talented and skilled artiste within our tertiary

institutions. Students Artistes with great dexterity in good stagecraft as well as lovable

lyrics and sounds by students within the tertiary institutions.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should have atleast four singles/songs accredited to their name and present

Copies / links of any work done.

 

Graphic Designer of the Year  

Criteria for Category

This category of ITEA shall recognize students who are skillful in graphic designs and

have great works to their name. A graphic design should be able to communicate a

message which can be projected in several forms and this requires creativity. Creativity

and good communication are key traits required.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should present copies/links of any work done.

 

Student Radio Personality of the Year (Male)

Criteria for Category

This Category of ITEA shall recognize male student radio personalities with a good

connection to audience, a wide social media savvy, authentic and accurate information

delivery. This personality should have a record of consistent improvement and an always

up -to-date know-how of issues related to students both on their campuses and beyond.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should be presenters of a campus radio station.

 

Student Radio Personality of the Year (Female)

Criteria for Category

This Category of ITEA shall recognize female student radio personalities with a good

connection to audience, a wide social media savvy with an authentic and accurate

information delivery. This personality should have a record of consistent improvement and

an always up-to-date know-how of issues related to students both on their campuses and

beyond.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should be presenters of a campus radio station

 

Campus Radio Station of the Year   

Criteria for Category

This Category of ITEA shall recognize the creativity, integrity, consistency and influence

of campus radio stations of the various institutions across the nation.

 

Eligibility

Stations should be registered as Campus Station under National Communication Authority.

 

Student Photographer of the Year     

Criteria for Category

This category of ITEA shall recognize students who have a great skills in Photography.

Students with creative concepts and a quality capture of those moments qualify for this

category. Photographs captured tell stories and this category explores the uniqueness of

student photographers to do so while capturing the overlooked details.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should present copies/links of any work done.

 

Outstanding Sports Personality of the Year (Male and Female)       

Criteria for Category

This category is reserved to honor student sportsmen and women who have performed

excellently and have attained for themselves laurels and the cheers of their fellow

students.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students

Nominees should be a sportsman or woman for a hall or institution.

 

DJ of the Year        

Criteria for Category

This category of ITEA shall recognize student Disc Jockeys who are creative, have good

techniques on turn tables with good taste and wide range understanding of music.

 

Eligibility

Nominees should be undergraduate students.

Nominees should present copies/links of any work done.

 

 

  • SPECIAL CATEGORIES

 

 

Tertiary Favorite Celebrity (Male)      

Criteria for nomination

This category of ITEA shall recognize a Male Celebrity who is more likable by tertiary

students. This should be personality in the arts and entertainment industry (Movie ,music,

radio, TV and on goes the list).

 

Tertiary Favorite Celebrity (Male)

Criteria for nomination

This category of ITEA shall recognize a Female Celebrity who is more likable by tertiary

students. This should be personality in the arts and entertainment industry (Movie, music,

radio, TV and on goes the list).

Private Sector entity which supports Youth Development            

Criteria for nomination

This category of ITEA shall recognize a Private sector entity which plays a major role in

youth development from the field of academia to the arts and entertainment. Youth

Development requires investing into an individual to be a holistic personality being capable

of critically analyzing every situation and using the available resources to create solutions.

Private sector institutions with a track record of such investments would be honored.

 

Most Influential Personality

Criteria for nomination

This category of ITEA shall recognize any personality who influences either the social and

cultural life style of tertiary students either by way of music or any other form. Fashion

trends, lifestyle, social and cultural attitudes are mostly influenced by some personalities.

This category honors an individual who has influenced tertiary students in this regard in a

positive way.

 

Outstanding Lecturer of the Year

Criteria for nomination

The primary criterion for the awards is skill in teaching, outstanding service to students,

and service to the University and to the faculty there are. In the selection of persons to be

nominated for these awards the following criteria are to be used.

Eligibility

Nominees for this award may be either full-time or part-time faculty, in qualified rank,

lecturing at the graduate or undergraduate levels for atleast three years. Graduate

Teaching Assistants are not eligible.

 

Selection Criteria

 

  1. Teaching Techniques and Representative Materials

There must be positive evidence that the candidate performs superbly in the classroom. The

Nominee must maintain a flexible instructional policy which adapts readily to student

needs, interests and problems. Mastery of teaching techniques must be demonstrated and

substantiated. Consideration is to be given to the number of substantially different courses

taught, the number of students per course, and the different teaching techniques employed

in the various courses.

 

  1. Professional Growth

Candidates must be abreast of their own field and use the relevant contemporary data

from that field and related disciplines in teaching. Evidence in this area includes but is not

limited to course syllabi, ongoing professional development (conferences ,workshops,

etc.) and may also include publications, grants, presentations at conferences, or artistic

productions.

 

III. Student Services

In relating to students, candidates must be generous with personal time, easily accessible,

and must demonstrate a continual concern for the intellectual growth of individual

students. The focus here is the accessibility of the nominee to students outside of class,

e.g. office hours, conferences, special meetings, and the nominee’s responsibility in terms

of student advisement.
