Late former President of Ghana John Evan Atta Mills, who died while serving in office in 2012, his legacy has been inked on the minds of many across not just the country but the world. It’s in this regard that a year-long activity has been planned to commemorate the late statesman, announced on Monday, 16th May at the Ghana International Press Centre.
Speaking at the press conference, Dr Alex Segbefia, Board Chairman of the John Evan Atta Mills Memorial Heritage reiterated the values that the former President stood for and called on the youth to emulate him for the betterment of the country.
He outlined the various activities planned for the year-long commemoration across the 16 regions in Ghana. The regions have been clustered into five groups; Western Cluster, South-East Cluster, Middle Belt Cluster and Ashanti and Eastern Cluster the Northern Cluster and Central, these regions will host various lectures in his honour.
“While the Northern cluster comprises the five regions in Northern Ghana namely, Northern, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East, and North-East regions, the Central and Western comprises the Western and Central Regions with the South-East Cluster comprising the Volta and Oti Regions.
“The Middle Belt Cluster, which has the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Western North Region lecture will be held in November at Sunyani and the Ashanti clusters being Ashanti and Eastern will end the 10th-anniversary activities and will be held in Kumasi in December,” he said.
‘’The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage will commemorate 24th July 2022, the exact day on which President John Evans Atta Mills died, with a memorial service at the Asomdwee Park in Accra in the afternoon. Wreaths will also be laid on his grave at the Asomdwee Park at 1.40 p.m, the exact time that the doctors pronounced him dead at the 37 Military Hospital. 6 The highlight of the 10th-anniversary celebrations will be the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture that will be delivered in Accra on Tuesday 26th July 2022 at 3 o’clock p.m. That Lecture will also double as the Greater Accra Regional Commemorative Lecture,’’ he added.
Renowned speakers will be invited to speak at the lectures across the various regions.
