After a possible leak scare, the official nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards are in.
On Wednesday (Nov. 20), the Recording Academy announced the full list of Grammy nominees for the 62nd annual ceremony. 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, who is hosting the 2020 installment of the award show, joined acclaimed journalist Gayle King on CBS This Morning to introduce the nominees and a number of music’s newest stars are leading the pack.
Lizzo’s phenomenal breakthrough year is far from over as the multi-hyphenate rap artist has cinched more than 8 noms, including nods in every major award category. Her third studio album, Cuz I Love You, is also up for one award as Album of the Year. The raptress’ revived sleeper hit, “Truth Hurts,” is dually up for Record of the Year and Song of the Year as well.
Country-trap sensation Lil Nas X came in as a close second with six nominations, including nods in the four big categories as well, largely thanks to his history-making hit song “Old Town Road.” Lil Nas is also up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside country icon Billy Ray Cyrus.
Both Lizzo and Lil Nas have been recognized as one of this year’s Best New Artist alongside pop darling Billie Eilish and Latin pop star Rosalía. R&B darling H.E.R came in third with five nominations, including Album of the Year for her EP, I Used to Know Her. This is both Lizzo and Lil Nas’ first time as Grammy Award nominees.
Lil Nas reacted to the exciting news on social media. He had three succinct words that pretty much sums how all the nominees are feeling right now.
