The month of December always comes with several acts of donation to the needy and helpless in society. A popular benefactor during this yuletide season is the Accra psychiatric hospital.
2017 has not been a smooth year for the health institution with several challenges confronting it and its health personnel in the delivery of services.
A visit to the Accra psychiatric hospital reveals a gloomy picture.
The special ward at the hospital has the highest number of substance abuse cases and it is a wonder enough resources are not committed to it. Without benevolent donations, the hospital would certainly be handicapped in its services.
At the beginning of the year, the hospital needed at least six thousand Ghana cedis a day to care for the over 5000 inmates.
Answering the call to lessen the burden is Spektra Global the construction firm consisting of architects, CAD technicians, quantity surveyors, accountants came together to donate toiletries, sanitizers, medicated soaps, Dettol, bathing towels and clothing for the inmates.
Not forgetting the construction aspect of the company, Spektra Global refurbished the male ward b of the hospital, a bright spot now in the hospital.
Evangeline Naa Kwarley Owoo, HR administrative Assistant of Spektra Global said the company couldn’t leave the hospital to wallow in challenges, especially during the festive season. PRO of Accra psychiatric hospital Emmanuel Aboagye Appiah expressed gratitude, affirming that the items would go a long way to improving healthcare delivery.
