One of the most patronized street festivals in the United Kingdom, Notting Hill Carnival was among the numerous events that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.
However, in the latest announcement made by the organizers of the festival, it will move it to digital streaming with Spotify being the main partners for now.
Organizers are making it first official digital move to encourage its millions of attendees from around the world to continue to have a feel of the festival, even though, they can’t be physically present. The musical and performances of the show have been filmed to be shown over four channels online, from 29 to 31 August.
The Executive director Matthew Phillip of Notting Hill Carnival said in a statement that, they are doing everything to continue to protect the black community.
“Carnival is such an important part of people’s lives and key celebration of the multiculturalism of the UK,” he added.
“We have a responsibility to our community and pioneers to honour that.”
Aside from Notting Hill Carnival, other events such as Glastonbury Festival, Tokyo Olympics and Coachella Festival and more have been cancelled.
